Do's and Dont's and a guide on how to look after your leather furniture. Example of lovely leather sofa (Abraham Corner Unit) DO's -Dust regularly using a soft lint free cloth-Vacuum regularly using a soft brush – crumbs and fluff can cause premature wear-Wipe away liquid spills and stains using a soft moist cloth. DONT's Do not soak the upholstery if it becomes over wet remove excess liquid and allow to dry naturally.-Do not use household detergents, wax or spray polish or any proprietary brand fluids or abrasive cleaners on the leather as this will damage its surface. Example of overly wet leather If the surface of the leather becomes scuffed, scratched, damaged in any way or the surface changes colour then contact a leather specialist for advice and/or repair. Example of scuffed leather What is your piece of leather furniture made from? 1) aniline 2 ) semi-aniline 3 ) pull up Pu - imitation leather 4) other Example of PU leather seat on dining chair We recommend the use of a proprietary leather cream. What does leather cream do? Does it feed leather? Yes, it contains natural oils and waxes to soak in and feed leather. However, only a few leathers actually need feeding. These are unfinished leathers like aniline and pull up. The rest of the leather on the market contains a painted finish and lacquer coating and so cannot be and do not need fed. These leathers need their finish protected - this is what the protection cream does. Example of leather cream - we recommend products that are of good quality. Other brands are available.   Will leather protection cream damage my leather? No, it contains no solvents or abrasives or any other chemical that can cause damage to your leather. It has the exact opposite effect: it helps prevent the leather from being damaged. Does the leather protection cream prevent staining? It helps repel stains, both oil and water based. Common ones are dye transfer from clothes and juice or tea spills. It will prevent dye being transferred and it will retain other stains on the surface so they can be easily wiped off. I have a natural (absorbent leather) is it safe to use? It is excellent on these types of leather: Aniline, Pull Up and oily/waxy pull ups. Two applications are necessary as the first will totally be absorbed by the leather. It...

Christmas time is near and the Family needs seating!

You may consider buying a larger table and some extra dining chairs for Christmas dinner, but trying to squeeze an extra sofa in your living room may not be an option. Is there a way of finding extra seats or be prepared for get-togethers? We will show you some options and give you tips how to seat a crowd this Christmas! Check our pinterest board for Spare Seats and ideas on seating! Cushion it Big pouffes are wonderful to provide extra seating and they are soft enough to keep them all year around, when squashed into corners. They are lightweight and flexible, but provide ample seating for at least one adult (or two kids at a push!). Get that footstool You may have been offered to purchase a footstool with your last purchase of an armchair and thought, when will I ever going to use it – well think again! Footstools are not only great to put your feet on when reading a book they can also provide that much needed extra seat during Christmas. For a small investment you will have a stool that matches your chair and will keep the living room design scheme coordinated. Some larger sofas offer generous footstools, either as an extra seat at the end of the sofa or as a double up coffee table/ storage footstool. These are great for Christmas and Family visits.   Bench! Benches are great to sit on. You can keep them in hall during the year to offer seating when putting your shoes on, or you place it in the bedroom – either as a window seat or in front of the bed instead of a blanket box, for that boutique hotel look we all love. Just pull a bench under the dining table and you will be surprised how many people you can sit!    Be creative… You might see a vintage wooden barrel – don’t see it for what it is, see it as an extra seat or side table during the year. Plunder your guest bedroom for that extra chair and don’t be afraid that the patterns don’t match – think eclectic mix of furniture! And voila the whole family has a seat and everybody is happy…

It's cold outside - take care of your wooden furniture!

Great tips to clean your wooden furniture and how to care for it during the year! Dust furniture once a week using a soft cloth and, while doing so, buff up the surface to restore its lustre. Despite what manufacturers of furniture polish would have us believe, wood does not need closer attention more than a couple of times a year at most. Don't avoid dusting furniture. Frequent dusting removes airborne deposits that build up in a filmy layer and can scratch the surface. Clean, dry, soft cloths or feather dusters will effectively remove dust; however, to avoid scattering the dust into the air, where it floats until landing back on furniture surfaces, dampen the cloth very slightly. 1. To clean the finish on your wood furniture just use warm water and mild dish soap. Cleaning furniture with water won't hurt it -- just be careful not to soak it. Use an old toothbrush for hard-to-get areas. Wipe the dirt off the surface with soft cloths or paper towels until they come up fairly clean. Then dry off any residual moisture with a soft cloth. 2. After a good cleaning, the best way to protect the finish is to use a good-quality soft paste wax. Apply a thin coat as directed on the label. Wait five minutes and buff lightly with a soft (shoe) brush or cloth. Wait another 30 to 60 minutes and buff/brush again with a bit more vigor. You'll see a beautiful shine return to the finish that will last for many months. Do not use sprays, especially any containing silicone. The only substance that should go near your furniture is a good-quality wax polish - try Antiquax, £3.95, or Jonelle Beeswax Furniture Polish, £5.25; both from John Lewis branches. Apply a small amount of polish with a soft cloth and work it into the wood in the direction of the grain. Then go away and make a cup of tea. After a half hour or so, return to the piece of furniture and buff the surface using a clean soft cloth, again rubbing with the grain. The idea is to remove excess polish so fold the cloth over as you work to prevent a build-up on the material. Otherwise you will be rubbing in the polish you have just taken off. 3. Keep your furniture out of the sun. The temperature of the summer sun coming through...
